Marty,
Basically the password is only used when you need to change some
of your options. It is not needed to send basic "set" commands like
"set korean-war-l mail postpone" (which will keep you on the list but
will stop the flow of messages until you tell the listproc to start sending
messages again.)

ABOUT YOUR LIST PASSWORD
The system has assigned you an initial password: XXXXXXXXX
You may change it by sending the following command to listproc@ukans.edu:
set KOREANWARL password XXXXXXXXX <newpassword>
Omit the < > when typing your new password.
WARNING: DO NOT use your login password, as this is not a secure
mechanism.
NOTE: This password is not related in any way to your email login
password. It is used for issuing certain commands to ListProc that effect
your own, personal subscription configurations. It is *not* needed to
post messages to the list.
This password is to be used when connecting to this server over the Internet
for interactive processing of requests (send a HELP LIVE command for more
information).
