Re: Unsan

Marty and others,

Many of us would like to believe that 400+ sets of remains have
been uncovered by NK, however, I am afraid it is only wishful
thinking. Although I cannot quote a source, I believe that a
maximum of two sets of remains have been found by NK, the
remaining 413 or so figure being the number that we suspect are
still in that general area someplace.

I am not familiar with any of the articles concerning the fate of
Sizemore, other than his set of dog-tags were excavated with some
remains, and that he was a member of Hq Co 8th Cav. I am afraid
that I dreadfully neglect the news papers and do not do as much
reading of them as I should. Somehow I always wind up being teed-
off at the way the reporters paint/slant their articles. At any
rate, it would be interesting to know just where this info came
from, about him and this truck bit I mean.

I also don't have the foggiest as to the care of our immediate
casualties. Strange, how I have never considered that point
before! Perhaps because I never made contact with any medical
troops at all once the action started. Late on the night of 1 Nov
- 2 Nov, I managed to hook up with a group of 14 E Co troops led
by an old and dear comrade of mine, Lt Cory. We made our way over
to the 3rd Bn area. Our stay there was a strange one, to say the
least. As the action began picking up in 3rd Bn area, we asked
one of the Bn Staff Officers (A Maj I think) what part of the
line we could be used on. After all, we were still a group of 16
able bodied troops, still armed and ready to do our share of
staying alive! We were told to just sit tight. As the action
continued to increase in intensity, we approached the Major two
more times. I think we got him rather aggravated for some reason,
and as we were about to take the matter in our own hands and find
a section to defend... he ordered us to try and break out across
the open river, in broad daylight. Surprisingly, we made it with
no wounded and saw no more action for the next three or four days
when we found our own units reorganizing a considerable distance
to the SouthSouthWest. If any one has info on why our help was
refused there, let me know, for I have pondered this question for
49 years now!

I made an error in my commo to you guys a little earlier today.
Our G Company outpost was to the WEST of our MLR and not the
East! (I used to carry a rock in my left hand!!)
