Korean People's Army Unit Histories
I'd like to make an offer to the list members.
It is probably that most of us who would subscribe to the Korean War List
are quite familiar with the make-up and organization of the United Nations
Command Forces. It is equally probably that we are less well acquainted with
the organization and history of the forces comprising the Korean People's
Army (KPA). Since I've spent the past 20+ years studying the KPA (from birth
to present) I'd like to share some of the information I've collected on the
units of the KPA during the war and through the late 1950s.
What I'm proposing is to post on the list, at irregular intervals, the
organization/combat histories (as we know it) of KPA units. I'll do this in
serial form, a little at a time. When I've finished a category of units, or
a major unit, I'll produce a .pdf file including organizational charts and
maps and will then provide it to whomever wants it. (Perhaps, by that time I
will have my own web site and will post it there for anyone to download it).
I will probably start with the 766th Independent Regiment and then move to
Army level engineer and railroad security/construction units.
Please let me know what you think.
Regards,
Joe
P.S. - I'm looking for a late-WWII or Korean War era gazetteer (list of
place names and geographic locations) for Korea. If anyone knows of such a
work could you please let me know.
