Ahoy, Mates, This is really news to me, and I would love to see some
documentation. The LSTs with Korean crews, why not but Japanese crews on
Minesweepers and Japanese fighting as ground troops very doubtful.
Remember this was a UNITED NATIONS POLICE ACTION, and Japan was not a member
of the U.N.. Too bad we could have used the help and who knew the
country better than the Japanese. Korea was called Japans "bread basket"
during their fifty year occupation. Of course anything is possible during a
war.
I recently learned that Wonsan Harbor, the most heavily mined body of water
the U S Navy ever cleared, was mined by the Russians. The mines were planted
by aircraft. Our Lt. and a good buddy were killed when their M boat hit one
of the
mines at Wonsan, 11 Nov 50. Bill
