I landed at Wonsan on the 26th of October. The 5th and 7th Marine Regiments
were sent north. I was in the 1st Marine Regiment who for a while stayed
around Wonsan; however, my battalion was sent about 35 miles south of Wonsan
to a small seaport village, Kojo. On the 27th (the next night after landing
at Wonsan) of October my reinforced platoon (57 men with a machine
gun-section) was overran and by what I believe to be a North Korean/Chinese
regiment known as the Black Diamond Mountain Guerillas, a pre-World War II
unit that fought the Japanese. In 15 minutes 17 of the 57 men lived to tell
about it. Don
