    I stand corrected on attributing the "Retreat Hell …" statement to Col. 
Litzenberg.  In David Douglas Duncan's 1951 book "This is War," Duncan 
states: "General Smith …commented… 'Retreat?  We coming out of here as a 
Marine Division. We're bringing our equipment . . . our wounded . . .   our 
dead.  Retreat, hell!  We're just fighting in another direction.'"
