The first and best-known of the U.S. Army official histories was actually 
written by Appleman--"South to the Naktong, North to the Yalu."  For some 
reason Appleman left the project after that and later wrote some commercially 
published histories, which I believe are not as highly regarded as his 
official history.  Appleman never did write a single-volume history of the 
war as a whole; you're not thinking of Bevin Alexander, are you?
