There was an article someplace earlier this year which noted the fact that 
since most US personnel were innoculated against many third-world diseases 
and the KPA and CPV forces were not, there was a lot of suspicion that POWs 
were "carriers" of disease as they did not suffer from infectious diseases 
other than those associated with malnutrition and poor living conditions. 
Can't remember where I saw it, but this observation was reportedly the reason 
why the Communists made that "germ warfare" claim in the first place. (Also 
it was "trendy" in the early days of the Cold War).
