Rhee Syngman, the President of South Korea, was about 65 years old when
he took office. As I recall he was 70 years old when he was in Taegu
during the retreat south (June 1950).
A lot of foriegn residents were part of the OSS in the United States.
Their tasks could be reading the captured papers, listening and
translating radio broadcasts or providing expert opinions/information on
the country.
There were some Christian Missionaries who were also part of the OSS
because of their missions into China and into northern Korea, many of
them prior to the Japanese keeping them out. It was the Christian
Missionary support groups that help Rhee to come to the United States and
gave him support during his anti-Japanese/Korean Independence campaign in
the United States.
