Re: Race Relations and Korea
Marc, The Marine Corps went to war in Korea as an integrated outfit.
Colonel Victor H. "Brute" Krulak was CO of the 5th Marines when Truman
ordered the Services integrated, and I know for a fact that Krulak was way
ahead of the other Marine commanders in obeying the order, and the others
did so quickly also. Re/MacArthur's apology to Shepherd, it is in the
transcript of the in-depth interview I did with him. As a matter of fact,
the sessions on Korea were jointly conducted by me and Colonel Robert
Heinl, who was then writing his book on Inchon. It probably is in there,
also, as Shepherd told both of us what MacArthur had said. Cheers, BMF
