Re: Drug Use by POW's and Others

Mike,

Drug use in Korea was minimal because it was strongly frowned
on by most back then. The punishment for someone in the military
using drugs was sure, swift and sever. As for the POWs smoking
marijuana in the camps, this is pretty well documented in the POW
debriefs. Marijuana grew wild there and wood-gathering parties and
those assigned to tend the gardens would bring it back to camp. Its
use was more for an escape from the hardships of POW camp life than
recreational. Even so, the majority denied using it.

It is a damned shame the POW debriefs will remain classified until
2028. There is a lot of very interesting information in those documents.
