Re: Race Relations and Korea

i suppose one measure of the Afro-Americans' participation in the Korean War
is the KIA stat. I wonder if such exists.

I understand that the Communists waged special psy-war on the blacks with
some sucess. Several blacks (I forgot the exact number) defected to the
other side. At least one black soldier drove trucks for the Chinese army
during the War.

An unrelated question:

Gen. Dean was the ranking US POW. Does anyone know what information he gave
to the NK interrogators and what happened to him after the War?

With all the questions re/blacks in the Marine Corps at the time of the
Korean War, none of which I seem to be answering satisfactorily, I am going
to go to MajGen Ray Murray, who commanded the 5th Marines at Chosin and in
the Inchon landing, to see what he can recall about his black Marines and
I'll come back to the list with what he told me. I shall also do some
further research to see if I can answer the questions which have been
raised. BMF
