I have read it and I think that Marty Russ had done an excellent job, and yes, he is hard on the Army, and deservedly so. Anyone who is knowledgeable about the Korean War will have to agree that Ned Almond was a complete zilch, totally incapable and promoted by the Army beyond the rank he should have been, PFC, and most likely a not very good one, at that. For an excellent, and not completely, but laudable, review of Russ' book by a Chosin veteran and the Director Emeritus of the Marine Corps, BGen Ed Simmons, see April issue of "The Journal of Military History."
