VIRUS ALERT
A new virus has been reported, and is spreading rapidly through
e-mail attachments with the subject line I LOVE YOU. This is
apparently so attractive a sentiment that many people have
forgotten to act prudently in the matter of opening
attachments. This is accentuated by the fact that the infected
attachment usually comes from someone familiar to the recipient.
The I LOVE YOU virus is a variation of the Melissa strain. It
plants itself in Microsoft Outlook facilities and sends messages
to everyone olisted on that machine's address book. Once opened,
it will overwrite files with the extensions jpg, jpeg, mp3, and
mp2. It is also said to overwrite HTML and script files.
