Among the many books on the Korean War read T.R. Fehrenback's This Kind of
War; Clay Blair's Korean War; Stanley Weintrub's MacArthur's War; and
Uncertain Partners (don't have the author's name handy but was published
around 93 and makes use of Former Soviet Union archives). This should give
you some good background. Whatever you learn in your research do not
believe that the US started the Korean War (if you go to www.kimsoft.com
<http://www.kimsoft.com> - Korea Web Weekly you can read such theories
particularly from a contributor named Kim Myong Chol).

Basically the north Korean's prepared for the war for some time, brought
back combat tested troops from fighting in the Chinese Civil, ceased all
propaganda against the ROK for a few weeks prior, called for reconciliation
meetings to take place in August, and then on the night of 24 June/morning
of 25 June (and oh by the way the ROK Army's new officer's club was having
its grand opening on the night of 24 June), the nKPA attacked the ROK (they
claim it was self defense in response to a ROK attack, but that was not the
case). And oh yes, do not forget the planning and materiel help from the
Soviet Union in preparation.

HI! I'm doing a project for my clas on the Korean War and I wanted to know
exactly how the war started. I've looked on the internet but it wasn't very
specific or clear.
