I think that the reason the Wolfhounds did so well is because of 
their training in Japan and because of their charismatic commander, 
Michaelis, I think, was his name. As for the rest of the Army sent to 
Korea from Japan, from what I understand, it was living the good life 
and there had not been much combat training of any sort. I would like 
to recommend to the list, the publication of the first of about 10-12 
Marines in the Korean War Commemorative Series published by the 
Marine Corps History and Museums Division. It is entitled "Fire 
Brigade: U.S. Marines in the Pusan Perimeter." It is particularly 
well done, I think. Copies may be obtained by purchase from the GPO, 
or by requesting a copy from the Marine Corps Historical Center, Bldg 
58, Washington Navy Yard, 901 M Street, SE, Washington, DC 20374. BMF
