Although all of the Army units were not at the reservoir, they were in the
November 27 - The 1st Bn, 7th Inf Regt relieves the 27th ROK at Sach'ang-ni,
some 117 miles northwest of Wonsan and comes under heavy attack, is
successful in repelling it the next day.
December 2 - the 1/7 withdraws some 33 road miles SE to Pungson-ni, its
rearguard successfully defending another attack.
December 6 - 1/7, now an RCT, engages enemy thru Dec 10 at Kogae-dong, near
December 7 - 7th Inf Regt's "Task Force Dog" moves to relieve 1st Bn, 1st
Marines at Chinhung-ni; the Marines begin their withdrawal from Yudam-ni.
December 11 - After a 35-mile fighting withdrawal, the Marines combat role
ends when the division enters the 3d Inf Div's defensive perimeter. After
which "TFD" withdraws, having successfully held the road open from
Chinhung-ni to Hamhung.
December 12 - 1/7 takes up positions west of Oro-ri, 16 miles NW of Hungnam;
Marines begin outloading at Hungnam.
December 14-15 - Companies B & C of 1/7 repel enemy force. Four or five other
attacks are repelled along 3d Inf Div front.
December 20 - 3d Inf Div assumes operational control of all remaining
December 22 - 3d Inf Div troops are only troops left on shore.
December 24 - All 3d Inf Div troops are onloaded and leave Hungnam.
