In answer to Jim, regarding newsprint reporters, there was a female reporter, 
whose name escapes me at this moment that would come to the front lines.  She 
was always and I mean always in the company of high ranking officers, dressed 
in men's summer kaki uniform.   She would always ask, "how is it going boys?" 
and I never saw her the one time she was at our unit, on the "hill".  She 
would come to the rear, be seen, talked to, then off she would go in a jeep.  
She was the only reporter I ever saw even near the battle line during my time 
there.  I think her last name  was Higgins
