If your friend said that he made a parachute jump into an area where the 
marines were surrounded and it was a reservoir, that  would have had to been 
in December of 50.  I would doubt that anyone would be jumping at that time.  
I believe there were some food drops, but it was all drifting towards the 
Chinese.

That battle of the Chosin Reservoir was from 27 Nov 50 to about 9 Dec 50 and 
it was the lst Marine Div, as well as an Army unit or two.
