The medal you described above (blue ribbon with one white strip) is awarded
by the United States for Korean War Service. The new Korean Service Medal
(recently approved) is a Korean Government medal awarded by the Republic of
Korea. There is another Korean War Service Medal. It is awarded by the United
Nations called the "Korean Service Medal. (the ribbon for this medal has 17
alternating blue and white stripes). There is another medal called a UN
Service Medal (blue ribbon with two white stripes) I am confused if this
medal is an American awarded medal or a UN awarded medal; nevertheless I
believe its a UN awarded medal and I do not believe it was awarded to Korean
War Vets. Go to this link and click on the branch of the service you were in.
