One other ration I used get was the "D" Ration Bar.  It was (IIRC) 8 oz of
very hard chocolate prepared in such a way heat didn't affect it.  It was 
supposed
to provide all the nutrition a man needed to survive on for a full day. It was
so hard that you couldn't gobble it down but had to gnaw small chips 
off.  It was
also known as an "emergency ration."  Agree with this description.
