Re: The Survivability of C-Rats
Hi all-
Well, I'm one of the guys who actually liked the food we had, except for
the powdered eggs and powdered milk. I don't know how I survived the coffee
but was glad to have it.
I even like the SOS, "chipped beaf on toast points" :-)
I have been flying a lot lately.
Last year I was taking a United flight from the Bay Area to NY. It was a
meal flight and we were given a misshapen ham and cheese sandwich on a still
frozen roll. An apple which was stale and mushy. And two cookies in
celliphane, probably a few years old and very dry.
The gal told me they pay 10 to 15 dollars each for those meals and I
wonder why they bother. I told her that I had been in the AF during the
Korean War and that when we were flying we were given what we called "box
lunches" which were many times better than what United was offering us for
all that money.
And I ate a lot of C and K Rations also over there which I was just glad
to have. I can still remember opening those packages and cans in anticipation
wondering what I would find, kind of like opening presents under the
Christmas tree at home.
