Ted Williams

    Help!  Who can tell me what type aircraft was flown in Korea by the 
famous baseball player and USMC fighter pilot Ted Williams?  

    What little I have read to date on Williams mentions only his flying the 
propeller-driven Corsair.  And I've also read that most of the USMC propeller 
pilots called up for the war were not transition into jets.  But I now have 
my furry little paws on a document that states Williams very nearly went in 
during a ground strike while flying the F9F Panther jet.  Maybe his celeb 
status got him a jet transition?
