Williams definitely flew Grumman F9F Panthers in the Korean war. He had a
spectacular wheels-up landing on a pierced steel planking runway in a
Panther, and was lucky to be unhurt. He had been hit by antiaircraft fire
and lost his hydraulics. This cost him the use of the wheels and the
flaps, making touchdown at very high speed for a landing.
