October 11
In the 1st Cavalry Division sector, the 27th Commonwealth Brigade,
supported by B Company, 6th Tank Battalion, crossed the Imjin River and
followed the 5th Cavalry Regiment northeastward on what they thought was a
parallel road. They were wrong and had to turn back and try another
route. Going was slow for the 5th Cavalry Regiment as they were
continually forced to clear enemy strong points on the hills overlooking
the road and mines from the road. In the 7th Cavalry sector, the 3rd
Battalion crossed the Yesong River early in the morning and attacked
north. Thus, all three 1st Cavalry Division regiments were now north of
the 38th Parallel and driving into North Korea.
On the east flank of the 1st Cavalry Division, the 1st ROK Division crossed
the Imjin River at Korangp'o-ri and attacked northwest on a road which
converged with the one taken by the 5th Cavalry Regiment.
On the east coast, 3rd and Capital ROK Division troops continued their
fight to clear Wonsan and by evening, 3rd ROK Division troops held high
ground a mile north of the city while Capital ROK Division troops secured
Wonsan airfield. The airfield was in good condition and became
operational immediately.
At Inch'on, X Corps closed its headquarters ashore and opened aboard the
USS Mt. McKinley.
