October 13

After breaking remaining North Koran resistance at the ridge, the 5th
Cavalry Regiment advanced to Sibyon-ni where it turned east on the lateral
road toward Kumch'on. To the south, the 8th Cavalry Regiment fought a well
dug-in, tank, artillery and mortar supported North Korean force south of
Kumch'on. The 70th Tank Battalion destroyed 7 T-34 tanks without loss to
themselves but the enemy continued their stubborn resistance. That night to
north of Paekch'on, an enemy company ambushed the tail end of the 1st
Battalion, 7th Cavalry column but routed by the arrival of 3rd Battalion,
21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division.

On the east coast Capital ROK Divison troops advanced toward Hamhung.
