October 14

At 12 AM the 5th Cavalry Regiment resumed its attack on Kumch'on from the
east, broke through and seized the town by dawn. There the 2nd Battalion
turned north and attacked toward the 7th Cavalry at Hanp'o-ri while the 3rd
Battalion attacked south to meet the 8th Cavalry Regiment. The 1st
Battalion remained in Kumch'on to clear the town. Thus the last prepared
enemy positions on the main highway between the 38th Parallel and
P'yongyang had fallen and the enemy front lines, as such, ceased to
exist. It was at this point that Kim Il Sung, Premier and Commander in
Chief of North Korean forces, issued his "Stand and die to the last man" order.
