October 18

The 7th Cavalry Regiment resumed its advance toward P'yongyang at
dawn. The advance was stopped at Hukkyo-ri by roadblock manned by an
estimated 800 North Korean soldiers and 4 dug-in T-34 tanks.. (Hukkyo-is
half way between Sariwon and P'yongyang.) This developed into an all day
battle.

On 8th Army's east flank, the 1st ROK Division at dawn appeared to be in
position to be the first unit to enter P'yongyang but was stopped six miles
east of the city at Kojo-dong by a tank-artillery supported North Korean
regiment. Fighting lasted all day and continued throughout the night.

In central sector, ROK II Corps continued their advance toward the
Wonsan-P'yongyang highway.

The lone ROK Navy minesweeper struck a mine at Wonsan Harbor and sank with
heavy loss of life.
