Re: [the-forgotten-war] Re: Searchlight battalion
The "Borinqueneers" did O.K. - they were hastily put together in P.R. and had
to fill in with Virgin Islanders, on the way thru the Panama Canal, the Army
there rounded up all the men they didn't want and assigned them to the 65th.
They got the short end of the supply, leadership and training sticks, just
like a lot of units in the Army got then. In Korea they got their share of
Ketoses. Gen. Almond didn't think too highly of them, racially or militarily.
But, nonetheless, they did O.K. - participated in 9 campaigns, got a PUC, a
MUC and 2 ROK PUCs. Individuals earned 4 DSCs and 124 Silver Stars. In my
opinion, anyone who served in Korea you is O.K. with me.
