Re: Ethiopian Troops



Regarding the Ethipian troops.

The Ethiopians or Kagnews as they were called, were a battalion of Haille 
Selassie's Imperial Body Guard attached to the 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th 
Division.

They were professional soldiers unlike the American Citizen Soldiers. They 
served as a unit in the Iron Triangle area in 1952 and l953. They won the 
presidential unit citation-- the highest award to a military unit.

I seved as a sergeant with intelligence and operations, 32nd infantry 
regiment in 1952 and l953 and I got to know the Ethiopians who were assigned 
to our section.
