The British used FURIOUS' 18" guns in LORD CLIVE and GENERAL WOLFE in the
First War. LORD CLIVE ended the war testing an experimental 15" triple
turret which design was not pursued.
The British 18"/L40 fired a heavier shell (1630 kg v 1460kg) but at a
shorter range (35km v 44km) than did the Japanese 18.1"/L45. The Japanese
also explored an 18"/L45 at the end of the First War and a 20"/L? design
during the Second War, though neither was pursued.
