Re: Turncoats



At least one of them is still living in China.  He
recently declined to talk about the Korean War in a
press interview.  Most returned to the US after the
war.  Unfortunately, they had been dishonorably
discharged from the Army in absentia and they
therefore could not be court martialed because they
were no longer in the Army.

The dishonorable discharges (DD) caused some problems,
because that discharge under normal circumstances can
only result from a general court martial.  I believe
it was the Secretary of the Army that just ordered
that they get a DD, something that was legally
questionable at best because a DD is considered a
"punitive" discharge (as opposed to say a general
discharge which is administrative in nature).
