Re: Korean War strategies (response)
Ed,
Don't put too much faith in the
accuracy of the official US military history!
For instance, in the South, Nakdong to
North, Yalu, it mentions an alleged massacre of
some 7000 S.Korean civilians by N.Korean troops
at Taejon. But we now know that this massacre
was perpetrated by S.Korean police and MPs in fact.
The victims were all S.Korean leftists or guerillas
who were imprisoned in S.Korean jails at the time.
They were taken out to the field and executed in mass.
According to Cumings' book, he also questioned
the accuracy of the early military landings of N.Koreans
on the East Coast in the early part of the War because
these reports were provided by the S.Korean military
which may have spread the info as part of its own disinformation
plan(if the War was planned by the South in advance).
This is why it is not that easy to find the real truth in the
history of the Korean War.
BTW, I checked on the time of the telephone call to the
American military officer in Tokyo. It was "in the morning of
June 25." The American reporter's name is John Gunther
(not Mark Gain). It is written in "The Riddle of MacArthur"
(pp.165-66).
Is there any time difference between Seoul & Tokyo?
