Re: 287th / Berlin MPs
Tom:
Great to hear from you. Thanks for the kind words. Although I can't say
truthfully that I can place a face with the name, I do recall the name. You
are correct about Capt. Rathburn being the CO at that time [1960] with
platoon leaders Vern Pike, Rich Piscal and myself.
During the early months of 1960, Col. Salisbury was the PM and then he was
replaced by Col. Sabolyk. I don't know how long our tours overlapped, but do
you happen to remember the name of the very young MP who managed to get
himself in pile of trouble after another and finally defected to the East?
For some reason the name of Kiernan comes to mind, but I am looking for some
validation. According to published reports, this quite immature fellow
eventually committed suicide in East Berlin.
I am in the process of developing a web site that will devoted to gathering
in memories of former soldiers like yourself who performed law enforcement
duties in Occupied Berlin. I would like to hear more about your experiences
during your tour in the Divided City.
Thanks for responding. Hope all is well with you, too.
