Gen. Dean is better known as the US military governor of Korea and for the
Cheju April 3rd (1948) uprising that erupted on his watch.  Dean was not
popular among the SK constabulary officers because of his overbearing
attitude towards the Korean officers.

As I recall, his book says little about his life as the governor of Korea.

Hi all-

   Yes, Dean retired to Berkeley and frequented the University (where I went
to school and taught).
   He was a somewhat controversial character, nonetheless revered, and he
liked to stay in the public eye. The press liked him.
   Most here thought he was a great guy, down to earth, and a real hero.
