I believe there were fewer than 20,000 Koreans in America in 1950, most of
these were old and poorly educated.
When the war broke the ASA (army security agency)/AFSA (armed forces SA)
scoured the US military for Korean-speaking personnel and found Lt. Youn Po
Kim and Sgt. Richard Chun. These two were pressed into intelligence tasks in
Korea.
Other Korean Americans:
Kyu Hyon Lee serving in the NKPA, as mentioned in Ed Evanhoe's note on Gen.
Dean
Alice Hyon and William Yi went to NK in 1951 and executed for espionage in
1953 or 1955.
The Kwak couple (don't recall their names) went to NK soon after the war and
disappeared.
Pvt. Ryan Sup Chung was with a unit based in Germany when he defected to NK
in 1968
