John,

1] SEVENTH FLEET -

* In last, mentioned naval aviation squadrons not being
discussed, nor certain auxiliaries that were part of 7th Fleet.
Included in those would be USS SALISBURY SOUND (AV-13).

Salisbury Sound departed San Diego 24 Nov 1949 for PH and

She departed Ponape Island 17 Nov 49 for Guam, Manila and Hong Kong,
arriving at the latter on 1 Dec 1949.

Ship remained at Hong Kong until 6 Feb 1950, then shifted anchor ing
location to Subic Bay and back at Hong Kong on 12 April 1950.
Participated
in exercises off Sangley Point, Luzon on May 11th, and departed for
Guam.
Loaded VP-42 (Patrol Squadron 42) P5M Mariner patrol seaplanes at Guam
27-29 May 1950 and back to San Diego on June 13, 1950. Then was
ordered to Far East and departed July 26th, with700 squadron personnel
of Patrol Squadrons One, Two and Four, helicopters, SNB trainers and
Army

Patrol Squadron 42 from July 1949 was headquartered at Saipan, with
detachments of PBM-5s at Oppama and Naval Station, Sangley Point, PI.
They operated regularly out of Hong Kong on refugee evacuation and

conducted
ASW and sea surveillance duties in the Formosa Straits in support of
Truman's

On August 11, 1950, they assumed Korean War duties at Iwakuni, Japan.

The following VP squadrons served during the KW - VP-6, -26, 28, 42,

2] DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER PAPERS.

National Security Council (NSC) papers are included in this libary at
Univ. of
Pennsylvania.

A useful website is http://www.history.upenn.edu
and sub-site at www.history.upenn.edu/trachtenberg/guide/nsc.html

File box numbers are listed on the web site, by year and NSC Meeting
number.
This begins with 1953 and includes specific reference to Korea in a
large
number of meetings.

(I was pursuing this in relation to Tachen Evacuation '54 and Quemoy
'58).

EISENHOWER LIBRARY - http://www.ibiblio.org/
sub site

Series.html

This site has alot on Korean War, mostly Box 35-36. (My pursuit was
ref Offshore
Islands and Formosa files, in other Boxes).

Some of your research areas seem to be along lines of Hass, Evanhoe,
etc.
and might therefore be useful to these locations, with help of
archivist.
