Abe,

1] Dictionary American Naval Fighting Ships (DANFS) 
 has ships, incl. troopships (AP, AKA, APA, etc),											 listed by
alphabetical name.

2]  web site, www.history.navy.mil and input Search with 
ships name. 

3] If looking for more than just general history, web site
also can take you to Ships History Branch (tel: 202/433-3643
or Operational Archives Branch (202) 433-3224), the latter
being where one would look up Seventh Fleet or other command
histories, organizations, etc. that the ship might have served
within.

You can also fax , or email, or send letter requests.  

Hope this is what you are looking for. Applies to all KW-L folks
when researching specific ships, commands, dates, etc.
