Mr. Sewell:
Does this book touch upon Soviet intelligence
collection operations in support of the 64th Fighter Aviation
Corps?

War
Mark,
There seems to be a lot of it in the
"Red Devils" book. (For those not familiar with this, in 1998 a Russian
writer, Igor' Seidov, published a history of the war in cooperation with
Asklo'd German, a pilot and retired Soviet Air Forces Colonel, titled "Red
Devils on the 38th Parallel". This book was just reprinted and given wider
distribution via East View Publications - no plug intended.)
I
just got done making a first "pass" through the book to clean up my data
bases on the Soviets in Korea, and noted a lot of material on the "United
Air Forces" (combined PLAAF and Korean Peoples Armed Forces Air Corps)
which is quite interesting. Most of it would appear to be sheer fantasy,
such as the claims of the "1st Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment" whose
brave Yak-9 pilots swept the skies of Mustangs and Shooting Stars in the
fall of 1950...
Will try and see what items of use are in there. There
is at least one report of dubious honesty which lists how many missions
KPAFAC MiG pilots flew and what damage they claim to have done.
