Re: Korean War SIGINT

Maury,

Despite all the rhetoric about the P-3 being a "super-secret" spy plane,
the airframe is 1960s and most of the stuff inside in actually old
technology. You can bet the new technology black boxes it did carry have
"total wipe and destroy" programs which not only destroy all data and
programs, but also physically destroy the hard disks and much of the
internal circuit boards as well. It is a pretty good bet these programs
were used before the plane landed. These little things are small enough so
even when all go off at the same time, all that happens is some smoke in
the cabin which does not affect the flying ability of the aircraft. Bottom
line to this is even if the Chinese do get their hands on the black boxes,
it will (would) take years for them piece them back together and by that
time what they had will be long outdated. (Private for your information only.)
