Here's a little World War II story to warm your cockles: The planned
amphibious invasion of Japan in 1945 was code-named "Operation Olympic." The
2nd Marine Division was given the "honor" of spearheading the first landings,
an attack that would include a total of 36 divisions (hmmmm, how many
divisions at D-Day Normandy?). After D-Day+5 the planners make no mention of
the 2nd Marine Division in subsequent advances "because it was assumed that
by then the division would have been annihilated."
All those volunteering for clerk-typist school with the Coast Guard,
take one stept to the right!
