It could be because of the MacNamara era standardization of nomenclatures. That was when he ordered the designators for aircraft standardized and use one or the other, or a third one would be chosen. (I.e. F-110A became F-4C, F3D-2 became F-10, etc.) Could be when the Navy chose it as an E platform nobody was going to listen to call for an EV-1 or whatever. Cookie Sewell AMPS |
