 Hey Marty-

What was the NAVY doing flying AF equipment? The C-121 was an AF plane.
The AF started flying propeller driven RB-29s and RB-50s (the "R" stands
for reconnaissance) Later came the big jet powered RB-47s and the RC 121s
and
135s. In Japan they were flying out of Yokota AFB near Tokyo.
The NAVY's two squadrons operated P4M Mercators, a plane built from the
ground up for reconnaissance work. The NAVY also used P2V Neptunes. The
 Navy's Japan-based VQ-1 Squadron flew Mercators.
Several other planes were used as well.
I don't know why the confusion but the co-ordinates show that the plane
was shot down in the north Yellow Sea across the Korean Peninsual a long way
 from the Sea of Japan.

Ron! I have the casualty list sitting in front of me - 30 sailors 1 LCDR, 8
LTs and rest enlisted, and one EM marine.

Dunno about the coordinates. Marty
