Hello

Hello:

I haven't seen any traffic, and I'm new to the list. My name's Vincent,
and my first-cousin, once- removed, Louis Enrique Bartning, was KIA in
Korea. So far, I've gotten a book regarding the 5th Regimental Combat Team
called _Hills of sacrifice_ by Michael Slater. I also got something from
the History Channel which has stuff about Army Rangers in Korea.

Louis volunteered, and I'm unclear about the record I have. My dad
remembered things differently than the records we have it. He's listed as
having been KIA in January of 1951. Could there be a mistake?

Louis was on the football team, a quarterback, before he volunteered. He
was also the eldest son of the eldest Bartning in the U.S., and Bartnings
have been in California/the West Coast since the middle-to-late 19th
century, his great-grandfather (my great-great grandfather), Heinrich
Bartning, dying in Los Angeles in 1917. My aunt says Louis is buried
there, but his record indicates he enlisted in the Virgin Islands...

Anyway, I haven't read _Hills of sacrifice_ yet. Hopefully, I'll do it in
the future.

Bye for now,

Vincent Henry Bartning
