The above phrase brings a flashback.  While with the 7th Marines, we were 
relieved on line by another battalion or perhaps an entire regiment, and 
enroute to the rear, we spent the night in an abandoned rice paddy.  It was 
dry and full of the rice straw that had not been cut or harvested.  That 
straw provided the softest nights sleep I ever experienced in Korea.
