Replacement System

While doing research on the G.I. in the Korean War I have come across
several references to the "packet" system of replacements whereby 4 men
could train and and stay together, even as replacements.  However, I
have not read any memoirs or Korean War Surveys (collected by the U.S.
Army Military History Institute) of veterans who claim to have
experienced this.  I'm hoping list members can shed some light on how
widely this system was employed, and what their own experience of it
was.
