If  there was a so called packet system, I never heard of it or know of 
anyone who else who may have been associated with it.

Replacements came in a few here, a few there, but no one ever said they 
wanted to stay with some other soldier who came into the unit, as they had 
trained together.

Replacements come into the company and were placed were needed.  Maybe one to 
the machine gun section, two to the 75 RR and etc.  I was a company clerk for 
a while, so I would have known.
