Re: Flame Warfare
Hi All:
Just a couple of minor forgettable notes about the use of flame during the
later stages of the conflict. As a footslogger with the 3rd Inf. Div in the
spring of 1953, I packed a flame thrower ["flame frame"] out to our assigned
OP [Dick] on a number of occasions. Had a five minute orientation on how to
use it, but I'm happy to say that I missed the opportunity to qualify on that
particular weapon.
According to my platoon leader, a defensive line of containers of (napalm?),
placed at likely avenues of approach around OP Dick, could be ignited from
the CP bunker. I think the fuel in use was napalm. Anyone remember such a
thing?
The OP defenses also included a series of microphones positioned at
considerable distances outside the perimeter to provide early warning of
sneakies. Such arrangements suggest the degree to which things had become
static by this time.
