What I don't understand is how they get VA benefits ???

Glen, some of these fakes were in the military, some even in Vietnam. They
simply didn't come close to doing what they now describe as their heroics.
At a  4th July party last week I met a VA counselor and popped the question
to him as to whether they screen these hero stories or what?  He told me that
as long as the vet doesn't make a claim for VA disability payments, they
generally let him rattle on with his war stories.  The theory being the guy
is really screwed up and needs their help.  It's only when he goes for
benefits that they start to check him out and maybe challenge his story.
