Hi John-
I'm not sure of that John. Give credit where due. MacArthur spoke out
regularly on public issues and was consulted by every U.S. president. He
completed his reminiscences shortly before his death and his retirement
speech will live forever.
Although egotistical and imperious he could also be warmhearted, human,
witty, and he was extremely intelligent. He was not a demi-god, not a Patton,
definately not a loose canon. My previous statment equating him too God was
way too strong, and I take it back :-).
Our well being might well have been better in his hands than in many
others in power at the time. But it is easy to second guess. We won in the
long run!
He ran the military the way I would like to see it run. MacArthur as
president would be an entirly different discussion.
